Here are some stories about our clients.

Their identities have been changed to protect their personal journeys.

  • “Charles” had no income. When he was hospitalized for life threatening anemia, doctors discovered he also had bone cancer. We housed him in a motel while he received outpatient chemotherapy and applied for SSI. He needed bed rest in the day and the shelter was only operated at night.
  • “Maria” had a high risk pregnancy and required bed rest.   We housed her during her late pregnancy.
  • “George” had pneumonia and was released from the hospital with oxygen equipment.   We housed him until he was well enough not to need bed rest or medical equipment.
  • “Charlotte” had just been released from a mental hospital and needed a few days of adjustment to the outside world before she could live in a dormitory shelter at night and be out all day with nowhere to go.
  • The “Johnson” family had a child with a contagious condition.   We housed them until they were acceptable to the shelter.

Supper: Our “People’s Kitchen” started on February 2, 2004. Now in its 6th year, the evening meal program continues to feed thousands every year. The kitchen has been a wonderful example in showing what a concerned community can provide from their hearts to help their brothers and their sisters with the most basic need.

Families Helping Families:    At Christmas time we match donor families to needy families.   The donors provide toys for children and food for Christmas dinner.

Screening of clients:  All of our housing clients are screened and referred by other agencies who continue to work with them to get them into a better situation.   For the Christmas program clients are also screened and referred by other agencies.   Meal participants are self screened.

If you have an event or a fundraiser, please consider working with our organization to create more awareness about being homeless.

Please remember us with charitable giving. All contributions are tax deductible as we are a certified 501c3 non-profit organization.
